Starvedog Lane 2000 Shiraz

We have been searching for a Shiraz to match or beat the ‘02 Rosemount Show Reserve, last night I was recommended the Starvedog Lane 2000 Shiraz. At $23 a bottle, it is starting to leave the price bracket I would consider drinking “everyday”, but we gave it a whirl.

The 2000 Starvedog Shiraz is a dry and medium bodied red that is very open on the nose, with rich berry smells mixed in with hints of spices. This is not a wine which would generally appeal to a new wine drinker, as it bursts onto your palate with peppery flavours and fairly strong tanins, before lingering with a dry finish.

Score: 7/10
Would I buy this wine again? Given the current market of many great wines selling at low prices, I would say this wine is good, however there are better value for money options out there. The search continues.
