Castello del Poggio Moscato D’Asti 2005

Castello del Poggio MoscatoMoscato is a sweet white wine style which falls somewhere between spritzy and sparkling. Castello del Poggio Moscato is an Italian import made in the traditional style by stopping fermentation once the wine reaches around the 5% alcohol mark, retaining the natural fruit sweetness.

Golden straw in colour with a fine fizz, the wine has floral and fruity aromas with a hint of musk. Flavours of grapes, lychee and turkish delight are kept in balance by fruit acidity with some honey on the lingering finish. A lightweight easy drinking style.

I feel this is a great lunchtime wine, perfect with sandwitches (or focaccia if you want to sound fancy). It would also go great with dessert, think fruit salad or apple crumble with ice cream.

Score: 7/10
Price: $14
Closure: Cork
Would I buy this wine again?
Yes, it is a step above the Australian Moscato style wines I have tried

  2. Moscato is a “drink young” style and I doubt that any of the 2005 vintage would be available any more. We purchase it from Dan Murphy’s.

  3. Best tasting wine that my partner and I have ever had.
Purchased also at Dan Murphy’s; wine was recommended by staff when asked for a fruity sweet wine.

  5. I was recommeded this wine by my liquor store’s wine expert when I asked for a sweet, fruity wine. After trying it for the first time it has become “my wine”. I LOVE this wine. For anyone who isn’t a huge wine drinker but would like to get into it, this is great. I’ve never gotten a wine headache the next day after drinking this like I do with most other wines. Practically guzzleable!

  6. This wine is imported by International Liquor Wholesalers, which in short means it’s imported by Woolworths, so you should be able to get it in most Woolies branded places. Personally, this is one of my favourite wines, and I’ve gone back and bought it again numerous times.
