The Pipers Brook Gewurztraiminer 2005 was our contribution to a wine dinner with friends, along with a platter of assorted cheeses. The theme for the first course was mostly Tasmanian, with the wine and most of the cheeses produced there.
The aromas were not as pronounced as I would expect from a Gewurztraminer, with apple, hints of tropical fruit and floral elements present. Tasting distinctly of green apple, the wine had sound and well balanced acidity and mineral elements, finishing very dry. The producer Kreglinger Wines have further tasting notes on their website.
Overall this is a quality wine which is overpriced. I would recommend the Delatite Gewurztraiminer instead, which is half the price and a better wine.

Would I buy this wine again?
No, the producers need to knock $10 off the price.
Gemma and I have some very good news, we are now engaged to be married! Such an occasion cannot go by without some sparkling celebration, so based on a fine recommendation at Uncle Dan’s we picked up a couple of bottles of the Clover Hill 2001 sparkling from Tasmanian producer Taltarni.
Pale straw in colour with vigorous small bubbles. Distinct aromas of apple are present, the wine is extremely refreshing and well balanced, controlled acidity and minerality combine with a touch of fruit and toasty characters. Taltarni have further information about the wine available.
This is a truly enjoyable sparking wine, far better than any entry level or non vintage Champagne I have tasted. As a side note, a special bottling of this wine was served at the wedding of Prince Frederik and Mary Donaldson in Denmark.

Would I buy this wine again?
